Top three things to do in Glasgow this weekend

If you're staying in Glasgow this weekend you'll want to know the best things to see and do. With such a vast amount of info out there it can be easy to be overwhelmed with choice, so to make things simple, we're giving you the top three. Yes, only three because quality trumps quantity on any city break.

Where to start?

The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA)
Well, if you're staying with McQuade Hotels you'll be in the West End, so that's where we'll start.

  1. The Riverside Museum. We can't get enough f this place. From the amazing architecture of the building itself to the steam trains and vintage cars in the museum itself. It's also in a great place to get stunning views over the old shipyards of the Clyde.
  2. GoMA - the Gallery of Modern Art in Merchant City. This fantastic art gallery is in an old merchant's house and the main room is a delight. The installations are regularly changed, so even if you've visited before there is bound to be something new to see over the numerous exhibition floors.
  3. Ashton Lane at night
  4. Head to Ashton Lane for dinner and a drink to wind down after a long day soaking up Glasgow's architecture and culture.

The Weather

As for the weather? According to the BBC it should be bright on Saturday and a bit driech (wet and cloudy) on Sunday. So, go outdoors on Sat and stay indoors on Sun for the perfect Glasgow weekend.

The Insider's Knowledge

The hidden cafe in GoMA
Check out the public library and cafe hidden underneath the main exhibition room in GoMA. The cafe does great soup and coffees and sipping a latte in amongst all those great books a joy that many tourists don't find.
